Capital Regional District - Trenchless Pipe Rehabilitation
Victoria, British Columbia
Northeast Trunk - Bowker Creek

Bowker CreekIn August 2005, the Capital Regional District with the assistance of Marek Pawlowski and Associates, tendered a contract to rehabilitate two section totaling 218m of 1140mm by 760mm diameter brick egg shaped trunk sewer. The sections are located adjacent to the Bowker Creek in a picturesque park setting in the City of Oak Bay.The sewers were showing signs of active infiltration, root intrusion and general deterioration.

Due to the sensitivity of the surrounding environment, Cured in Place pipe lining was deemed to be the most sensible renovation over traditional open cut replacement.

In January 2006, Capital Sewer Services Inc. mobilized a Lining Crew to Victoria to undertake the project. Once the 12” bypass and HDPE discharge had been established, ramps were constructed in order that access could be maintained to the park area by local residence.

Pipe preparation and cleaning works were completed within 4 days which included the sealing of various areas of active infiltration by man-entry means. Flushing and debris removal operations were performed by local contractor McCreas Environmental Services.

The CIPP liner installation was carried out using Capital’s mobile inversion platform trailer due to the restricted site access. Both sewer lines were relined and back in full service within a one week period. The installations took place, during some of the heaviest rainfall that the area have seen in years, without any environmental issues or complaints from local residents or authorities.

Following minor landscaping and restoration works the park area looks as though Capital’s Lining Division were ever there.
